I think it would be best if I told you a little bit more about myself!
At school, I am a well-rounded student, I have a 3.7 GPA. I am a junior at Kenwood Academy High School and I love my school. Some of the activities and sports I am apart of include: being a Junior Mentor to underclassmen, member of the Junior National Honor Society (JNHS), member of the Student Senate, Saxophone section leader for my schools' Concert and Jazz bands, Captain of the varsity swim team, and setter on the volleyball team. Overall, I am very involved at Kenwood and I love the school spirit of my class.
I am aspiring to go into engineering or architecture. I am also very involved with music I play the Baritone Saxophone at my school and hope to pursue this interest at college. Overall, I am very interested in the sciences and the arts and hope to attend a top university that will help me accomplish these aspirations.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I am a member of the Kappa Leadership Institue of Chicago which has made this trip possible for me. I recently became a member of the organization this past October. The program is dedicated to helping young minority men get prepared for attending top universities and exposing us to great opportunities like this trip. I live with my single mother and, soon to be 13 year old, little brother; and quite honestly there is no way my family can financially afford to assist me in my college goals. Being involved with this program I have gained so much hope that my dreams of attending a top university will come true. Everything seems all the more possible. College has always been a dream of mine and I want to contribute to a list of men in my family who have attended college.
Being able to study abroad has been one of the best opportunities I will be exposed to because it will allow me to not only visit a new country, but to be see the world in someone else eyes from a different side of the world and experience this on my own. I honestly CANNOT WAIT to go to Costa Rica! :D Once I'm there I will be a part of the language study program and will live with a host family.
Anyways look to the right of the page you can donate, click the ChipIn button. Every bit counts! It really does and your help is greatly appreciated. I'll be posting throughout the summer of my time in Costa Rica as well. Thank you for your help in this journey!

To Costa Rica!!!
Hi! My name is Ahmad Saeed. I am a 16 year old Student in Chicago, IL looking to study abroad this summer (2011) in the country of Costa Rica!I am very excited to be able to have this experience soon. I am a member of The Kappa Leadership Institute of Chicago (Kappa League Chicago) http://www.kappaleaguechicago.org/index.html and they have made this journey all possible for me with the AFS program. http://afs.org/afs_or/home
When I first learned about this opportunity I was blown away. I never thought that I would ever study abroad as a high-school student. I will be living with a host family for 6-8 weeks and will be fully emerged into the Costa Rican culture. I hope to really get to learn the language and really grow as person while living on my own. I am on my way towards reaching my monetary goal for this amazing trip, however I will need your help! I must fundraise to help finish paying for my tuition and the necessary funds for living in Costa Rica.
I have applied for a scholarship that sends students from the Chicago Area on study abroad programs like (AFS). However, I am still waiting for my response. If I am successful in receiving the scholarship and fundraising money here, I will be able to have a successful trip. My initial goal is $1,500.
